When you think destination weddings, you might think Mexico, St. Lucia, and even Europe. But what most couples over look is the possibilities right next door. We've had several couples from Toronto who wanted a destination wedding that was within reach for their guest. With so many friends and family members having already said “i do” in the Caribbean, couples know that that they want to be a bit more original, yet stay within their budget. One of our couples was able to have everyone they had invited come to their reception because montreal was accessible and easy to get too. With so many options of things to do in Montreal, its no surprise when we are contacted by couples from out of town to have their wedding here. It's european feel makes for a beautiful backdrop to all of our weddings and we love helping couples get in touch with some great vendors to make their day that much better.

Some of our favorite weddings venues include:

If you live outside of Montreal and were thinking of having a destination wedding, contact us today and we'll help make your plans that much simpler. We can suggest the right venue, vendors, and help you stay within budget! -The Maddy K Team

A combination of Pink + Black

A classic combinations of colour we’ve seen this summer is Pink and Black (Or Fuchsia and Black).  It’s feminine yet elegant.  One of our brides was afraid that the combination would be too girly, but with the creative ideas of the Maddy K Team, the entire theme went off without a hitch and the night was absolutely stunning!

Another one of our brides incorporated fuchsia into the bridal party.  All the groomsmen had fuchsia ties and black suits, while the bridesmaids all had black dresses and fuchsia bouquets.

It’s little things like this that make the simple and classic combinations of pink and black POP!

We love cost-conscious options for couples getting married, we also love good causes and helping out foundations that donate money to specific causes.  Well, we’ve found both of these wonderful things all wrapped in a pretty package in Toronto.  It’s called “The Brides’ Project.”

The Brides Project has two very important purposes: “to provide every bride with the things she needs for a beautiful wedding within her budget, and help children and adults with cancer.”

Recently, a friend of ours went to the Brides’ Project while vacationing in Toronto.  She found her dream dress for a fraction of the price and the total amount of her dress was donated to cancer research.  She not only was excited about her purchase, but also felt so great about her contribution to something so important.

We love these kinds of places and are so happy some place like The Brides Project exists.  Many of our couples are from Toronto, so it’s definitely a lot of our brides can visit.

From Masquerade Balls to classic and chic, the Hotel Nelligan has been the backdrop to many of our fabulous wedding receptions. The Hotel Nelligan is located in the heart of Old Montreal making it a favorite among most of our couples. The building is over a hundred years old, with traditional brick walls and fabulous french cuisine it’s a little taste of Europe right here in Montreal.

The Nelligan Hotel is a boutique hotel with luxurious suites and even a penthouse. So our couples don’t have to travel far to go from their wedding reception to their suite. It’s the total package that couples are looking for when it comes to location, options and romance, The Nelligan hotel is always on our list.

For more information about the Nelligan Hotel, visit them here.

High-Tech Savvy Couple!

Being a high-tech savvy when it come to planning and organizing your wedding is something that many couples have taken upon themselves! It’s free, in most cases, and relatively easy, so you don’t have to have gone to technical school to be good at putting it together. Recently my cousin was married in Toronto and her and her fiancé had put together a wonderful website including a google map of both the reception and the ceremony as well as where the hotel was and the rates. Most of their guests were coming in from out of town so they had a “Things to Do in Toronto” section for those who would be there early or be leaving later. Most of the guests were still talking about when it came down to the reception, so it was obviously a big success! There are tones of tools out there for you to create your own online wedding guide for your guests. These include: Websites by Google, Blooger, and if you have a Mac Computer there is a program called iWeb built right into the system. The possibilities are endless! All these tools are out there for you to use, so get out there and become a high-tech couple!

Bridesmaids gifts are a great way to show your appreciation and thanks to those special girls that have been there for you.  Most ladies will tell you that being part of your bridal party is gift enough, but giving them a little something will go a really long way!  OUr favorites include key chains, wine carry bag, compact mirror, a beautiful gift box that you can easily fill with jewelry or a gift card for the spa, and a “love” plate set!

We’ve created an inspiration board with some great bridesmaids gifts found on the Maddy K Online Boutique Maddy K Online Boutique

Vicki S is our in-house floral design expert. She’s been working with flowers since the age of twelve and hasn’t looked back since! We love everything she does and so do our brides!

For Vicki, a perfect flower arrangement is “one that is made technically correct, with a good balance of colour and design.” This summer one of our floral trends is round compact bouquets. “These types of bouquets are versatile and work well with most flowers and look good with all dresses!”
What else have we been seeing this season? “Rich colours are popular with chocolate browns, fuchsia, reds and oranges. Roses are great for these colours and callas also are continuing to be popular this year.” Brides have also been asking about environmentally friendly and fair trade grown flowers, which is leading to sourcing more home grown flowers. Not only are the flowers fresher, but we are supporting the economy as well!

Our favorite summer Colour.

Summer weddings tend to bring out some of the brightest colours, and this summer is no exception!
Vibrant Green is a colour we are seeing frequently, and we just love how it pops! You can go anywhere with this colour and pair it with several colours; green & brown, green & black, green & purple, green & yellow, and green & pink!

So have fun and be creative with this summers colour that POPS!

We love our animals!
Some couples love their animals so much that they include them part of their wedding ceremony & reception. After reading an article about Academy Award winner Jennifer Hudson, wanting her 3 dogs in her upcoming wedding, I was inspired to look up all the dogs in wedding ceremonies that I could find - our inspiration board covers what I found.

You can dress them up, or simply tie a bow to their collars, or just leave them the way you love them the most! Either way reflects your relationship with your "best friend".
Celebrities like Adam Sandler made his dog his best man, while other couples keep them as a part of their bridal party! Be creative and why not have your pooch with you, they are there for you all the time anyways, why not this day!!

We were inspired to write about pets at weddings because one of the girls on our staff just got a pug.

Nothing says romance and love better then pastels and pinks!

Valerie and Fabio held their beautiful wedding reception at one of our favorite locations in Old montreal, The Nelligan Hotel. Pastels, roses, and ribbons were seen throughout the reception with a tiny pop of red.  This reception was simple yet very elegant and suited this beautiful couple from Rome perfectly.

We wish Valerie and Fabio all the best in their new life together. Congratulations!

Koko Restaurant + Bar

This downtown chic restaurant and bar has been the backdrop to a couple of our weddings over the past year, so we just had to feature it!
Located at the corner of Boulevard Saint-Laurent and Rue Sherbrooke, this venue is so versatile we’ve done wedding receptions and ceremonies on their beautiful terrace and dinning area. The bar is decorated with dramatic chandeliers and accents of bold black and lime green. This venue is where brides and grooms take their creative side to new heights with concepts and ideas that make their guests say WOW!
The executive chef is Felix Turianskyj and this menu is best classified as contemporary Asian-inspired cuisine. It’s gourmet all around!

All our brides and grooms that have celebrated at KOKO have loved every moment of it! What’s best? KOKO Restaurant + Bar is attached to the chic Opus Hotel. Have you and your guest stay right next door at one of Montreal’s hottest Boutique Hotel.

Maddy K Real Weddings...

With so many social marketing tools to take care of, we sometimes neglect to update our blog with our latest work... our FB Fanpage is full of photos however our blog readers hardly ever get to see the outcome of our hard work... so for the next few posts, I will be sharing some of our real weddings done recently and of course if you would like to see the full portfolio of that particular wedding, you would be able to do so on our FB Fanpage!

The first wedding is Joanna and Kevin. They got married in May. The Ceremony was at the Notre Dame de Basilica Chapel followed by an intimate ceremony at the Nelligan.
It was a destination wedding for the couple who were from Toronto, and got 80 of their close friends and family to join them.

The concept was black and white with a hint o
f blue...the flowers mixes of hydrangeas created by our very own floral designer Vicki S. and the tables were adorned by crystal chandeliers that glittered all night long!!! This special moments of this wedding was captured by non other than Christina Esteban who always does a great job!!!

Wishing Joanna and Kevin all the best in their life together.

Movies We Love!

With the weather going from hot to cold, sunny to raining, we've had some time to look some of our favorite movies! There are so many movies out there with weddings as their central theme, making it almost a right of passage for every bride. Naturally almost every "wedding" movie is a romantic comedy, but some even have a place in the best movie category.
My Big Fat Geek Wedding, for example, won lots of awards and gained global recognition! Both brides and grooms can enjoy this film!

The Wedding Signer is a typical Adam Sandler film with a romantic twist - very nostalgic.

Our favorite: Father of the Bride - it's an AMAZING movie and I think made everyone tear up just a little - it also showcases how much weddings can cost and the stress in planning!

So go ahead, rent a wedding movie, indulge! - we won't tell
