Garden Wedding...

" I want a garden wedding" she said the first time I met her. Of course after she had told me that she wanted to plan her wedding in exactly four months because she was moving to Miami to live with her husband to be and wanted to tie the knot before she left Montreal! No Problem, all was good, we could start the planning right away... EXCEPT... "I'll be leaving to Miami to start decorating our new place so I won't be in town much"... "But it's ok my mom and my mother in law will be here to help you with anything you need!"

Although the planning of it was stressful, due to the fact that decisions were not made on time, the end result of the wedding was exactly what the bride was looking for... of course it didn't hurt to know that the mothers both loved the final outcomes as well!!!

The wedding of Rana & Ezzat took place on Sunday August 17th at Bice in downtown Montreal. The weather was beautiful, although they announced 40% showers we had a beautiful day all day and we did not see not one drop of rain :) The tent was decorated exactly like the bride had dreamed of... she got her garden wedding and was able to enjoy it with her friends, family and of course her handsome prince!

The staff of Bice were great and I must say it was a pleasure to work with them, although at times during the planning I did have my doubts, at the end everything went well and the evening was a dream come true!

I can't wait to share with you the pictures of this wedding, but for now you will have to settle for the photos taken by me...

We wish both Rana and Ezzat all the best in their lives and lots of fun in the Miami sun!

A Hidden Treasure, not for much longer...

This past week end my husband wanted to take me away for my birthday for some R&R. Usually, I am the person that makes travel plans; but in this case, all I was told was what to pack and everything else was left a surprise!!!

To my surprise, he took me to a resort hidden in scenic Whitefield, New Hamsphire... Mountain View Grand Resort & Spa. A classic granite state hotel, housing 145 guests rooms. Being extremely picky, I really wasn't thinking that I would love the place as much as I did... it was love at first sight.

The resorts tower Spa offers more than 60 services in serveral dozen spacious treatment rooms, providing privacy and panoramic views. Upon arrival I was booked for an Aromatherapy Massage - which is the basic strokes of a Swedish Massage combined with inhalation of Essential oils to balance the energies, stimulate the nervous system and awaken the senses. - IT WAS GREAT! I then found out that the Spa was named a top-five resort spa in North America and the Caribbean by a Conde Nast Traveler readers' poll.

Then we spent the rest of the day at the pool and enjoyed the scenic view of the white mountains.

The following day I was back at the Spa for a European Depp Cleansing Facial, followed by a Mani-Kur and a Pedi-Kur... it was such a rejuvinating experience! I high recommend the spa as well as the resort to anyone looking for a week end away to relax or even a week end away with the kids... great place for families, fileld lots of outdoor activities, including pony rides, trip to the farm, golfing, hiking and so much more...

For dining, the Mountain View offers three choices. The Main Dining Room: tasteful in style wiht ivory linen and fresh flowers, golden chandeliers and muted musical offerings is a taste sensation. The Tavern is is the spot for classical casual meals and late night pub favorites! The Club House offers comfortable cuisine during the day around the pool and night with option of dining inside or outside on the deck to enjoy the spectacular mountain view.

My favorite thing about the hotel was the Veranda that allowed you to just sit on a rocking chair and read a book, sip on a glass of martini or coffee and just enjoy the serenity of the place!!

I was sooo pleased and was curious as to how my husband found the place, he told me that the place was featured on the cover of "Resorts & Great Hotels" Magazine.

What a great pick!

So why am I telling you all about this place? Because I would love to plan a destination wedding at the hotel... It is a perfect spot for couples looking to have a week end wedding in an intimate out door setting with close friends and family. While we were away, there was a wedding taking place and I over heard all the guests just raving about how beautiful the place is and how happy they were to be there.

If you're interested check out the site and contact us, it would be our pleasure to help you plan a dream wedding at the Mountain view Grand Resort and Spa!

Thanking Maddy K with a full page AD!

Belle & Matthew are a wonderful couple that got married last labor day week end at the Basilica Du Notre Dame followed with an intimate reception at Decca77. That was almost a year ago... last I heard from Belle was the day after the wedding she was going back home to West Virginia and she called to thank me for everything and to express her happiness!!

It's rare you find brides thinking of their planner the day after their wedding... so it was so nice to know that Belle hadn't forgotten.

After almost a year, I get a call from the photographer that shot the wedding... George from CandleWax. He said "Maddy I have a surprise for you"... the surprise was that Belle; as a thank you gift for me; had bought me a page of advertising in one of our local bridal publications called Marions Nous. You can imagine my surprise and shock when I heard this... it probably is the nicest thing any of my brides have done and it was sooo thoughtful of her.

I was of course concerned about the artwork, since at Maddy K we are very conscious about our image :) So I rushed to the Pharmacy and picked up a copy of Marions Nous. Positioning of the AD was GREAT. Considering that George did not have the Maddy K logo and does not have an in depth knowledge of the Maddy K brand, the artwork was well put together. I appreciate his efforts for designing my artwork and thank him greatly for helping my bride pull this surprise for me.... it was very kind of him.

For once it feels good being on the receiving end rather than always being at the giving end... Belle was a sweet heart during our planning process and will always be remembered as Sweet Belle by the Maddy K team. We wish her and Matt the best in their lives together and hope to see them in Montreal sometime soon :)

For those of you interested in seeing more photos of Belle's wedding, I will post more up as soon as I get them from George... so stay tuned.

You will find the MADDY K Ad in the beginning front pages of the new Marions Nous issue... Give us your feedback on our Ad... we'd love to hear from you!

Black and White Inspiration

Today I decided to put together some photos of past Maddy K weddings with black and white themes to use as inspiration - With black and white it's easy to add any colour as an accent. This year we've seen a lot of black and white with green.

The black and white wedding invitation and stationary made by the Maddy K team with the damask theme is absolutely beautiful. If you are looking for a wedding invitation that pairs well with the damask theme, Maddy K can help you create it!

A black and white table setting is simple and nice to look at. And with a pop of colour (like green), it really finishes the look.

White wedding cakes have always been popular, but surrounding your caked with black, (like chairs, table runners, mirrors) really makes the cake stand out.

The perfect accessory to a white wedding dress is a simple black length of ribbon or lace worn in your hair. It's the perfect complement to a sassy little party dress. (Photo from weddingbells.ca)

Etiquette - What's right, what's not???

So I got a call from CBC. They are preparing a segment on Guest and Bridal Etiquette, and wanted to speak to a wedding planner about all these etiquette issues that seem to be on every bride's mind and even more on guests minds!!! Simple questions such as "Is it ok to give Cash as a gift" or "how can you tell your guests not to bring their children, without insulting anyone" or " Is it proper etiquette to have a B-List incase not all you're A-listers end up coming?"

Etiquette is important, however it is also important to know that at the end of the day you as the couple have to do what is right for you and your situation. You don't need to pay for accommodations for guests, however if you chose to, there is no rule against it. Same thing if you want to pay for your bridal party dresses, there is no rule saying you shouldn't or should, so it depends on your circumstances and your budget of course. So my advise to all couples out there is to not worry too much about what is right or wrong...because what might be right for one couple, might not apply to you! Plan your wedding with your heart...however keep an open mind and whenever you are not sure what would be the proper thing to do, then go on the web or buy a Peggy Post book and I assure you all your questions will be answered!!

As for the CBC segment. It will be aired in a couple of weeks on the Montreal Living show. As soon as I have the exact dates and time, I will share them with all of you :)

Lazaro: Profile of an artist...

A childhood passion coupled with a keen sense of style and fit, Lazaro is a natural born bridal designer. Inspired by the after school teachings of his mother, he relies on the lessons he learned while helping to make the family's clothing when designing his new collections. The rich repertoire of skills gained in his adolescence has proven helpful as the Cuban-born New York bridal designer is now frequently described as the leading innovator of the contemporary-classic look. Lazaro's version is a look made immortal by the great Cristobal Balenciaga. "A look of infinite simplicity," says Lazaro, "combining the perfect cut with sumptuous fabrics, romantic grace and light modern movement."

Lazaro's career as a designer of wedding gowns seems pre-ordained. An artist from the start, Lazaro always took pleasure in drawing, painting, and realizing the ideas that once only existed in his imagination. His natural talent and home education shone through in 1981, while still a student at the Ray College of Design in Chicago, when he was awarded "Best New Bridal Designer" in a national competition. Most recently, Lazaro was awarded a "Distinctive Excellence in the Bridal Industry" (DEBI) Award in the category of Style Innovator for Bridal Gowns, one of the most prestigious in the bridal industry, as well as its "Designer of the Year" award.

A master of the contemporary-classic look after almost a decade with his own label, Lazaro's designs are timeless in their elegance. Avoiding trends, he instead expands on prior collections. He incorporates the input from his team of contributors, but more importantly, from brides-to-be as they provide his inspiration. He works closely with his customers during trunk shows to get an accurate picture of what real brides desire. Looking back on his previous successes, Lazaro diversifies his future collections based on what was missing in the past. Priding himself on the ability to design for any bride, Lazaro features everything from slender silhouettes to ball gowns and styles that range from simple to extravagant.

Shina and Max in Wyndham Cap Tremblant...

The Wyndham Cap Tremblant was a picture perfect setting for Shina and Max's Wedding.

By far the wildest wedding I've ever planned :) The crowd was ready to party from the moment cocktails started and didn't stop till wee hours in the morning...

The day was just perfect for the outdoor ceremony planned... and the reception under a tent like setting was the exact romantic setting that the couple wanted for their special day.

Below are some pictures of the day taken by the Manny Favas from Papillon St
udios, who did a great job of capturing all the special moments of the day.

Planning a Bridal Shower ...Thought of Lounge6??

As we're getting closer to the wedding season, I am getting more and more requests from Mothers and Maid of Honors asking me to help them find intimate but yet different spots for Bridal Showers!! We have in Montreal many original locations that could cater to bridal showers, baby showers and any other intimate occasion.

Lounge 6 is just one of those places...it's a hip and trendy lounge at night, but during the day it transfers to a space that brides to be are loving for their showers! It is very different, nicely decorated, great ambiance and best of all affordable! Not to mention the food and staff are absolutely great!!! Definitely worth checking out, you won't regret it!!! Visit www.loungesix.com or call and ask for Jimmy, he will take good care of you and will make sure to cater to all of your needs for your special day! :)

A Bridal Luncheon

A bridal Luncheon, is a dress-up, fancy lunch party that more and more sophisticated brides are opting to host for their girl friends and family. This event is one event that a girl could add a little "frou-frou" and love it...just because it's an all girls occasion. It is the ideal setting for a group of girls to gather and go totally feminine!

The bridesmaids' luncheon is nearly always hosted by the bride, to express thanks to her maids for their efforts. Attendees may include the bridesmaids , as well as any other close female friends or relatives participating in the wedding, including the mothers of the bride and groom, sisters and favorite aunts.

It's a way to personally acknowledge each bridesmaid and friend to her contribution to the wedding, and to focus some attention on them, since they'll take a back seat to the bride at every other wedding party.

The perfect menu for a bridesmaids' luncheon should be light and luscious. Start the meal with a chilled soup served in dainty teacups. Follow your refreshing first course with a zesty chilled potato salad and a main dish of poached salmon with lemon-dill sauce. The perfect ending to a perfect day? A berries and cream trifle, presented in an elegant crystal bowl. In conclusion, this is an intimate affair, and is one that will probably be dearest to your heart!
